Early this morning we see a bison by the mud/steam pools laying down keeping warm. We also see the beautiful mist and the trees reflecting in the Firehole River. Then to the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone.

Hiking to Lower Falls we see all 300ft of magnificent full falls in a colorful deep canyon. It ain’t like the Grand but is special. Then looking for a campground we ended at a beautiful spot in the amazing Glacier Lamar Valley at Slough Creek. We spent the afternoon there lounging and reading in 80 degree temperatures, sunny by a gurgling creek. Everywhere there are serious signs warning of bears and you cannot leave any food or smelly items outside your vehicle. A man comes from down a trail telling us he has seen a big black bear on the trail and asks us to warn others not to go there.

When we are leaving the area we head back down the dirt road and we see a car stopped on the side of the road. Then we see it too! A big black bear right by the side of the road. We amusingly watch as the 400 lb. “cute” animal turns over rocks with his huge clawed hands and buries his head down in the earth butt up to eat the roots he looks for. He comes very close to the road, 6’ away, and we get a great shot of his face.

Later as we dinner by the side of the main road we also see 3 young and one older pronghorn sheep, unusual crooked antlers, playing, running around with each other. We visited Roosevelt Lodge and off to another good sleep
