Sunday July 19, 2009

We head to Church, the Joy of Life Center, a Religious Science Church, that was just what they talk about - a joyful, friendly congregation and a provocative minister. We go to the Farmer’s Market and sample all the fresh summer fruits as we head back to our couchsurfing friends.

They prepare us a lovely BBQ dinner and Maggie’s son joins us. They surprise us with the traditional gift of Calgary – Stampede White cowboy hats! Unfortunately we have just missed the famous Calgary Stampede a 10 day and night party. We are thrilled and glad we won’t leave the West without this symbol. We gift them with a Maui calendar and an offer of a repay when they come to Maui. We hope soon! We keep talking about politics and life. They tell us what it is like to be Canadians, as native-born Eastern Canadian, and immigrant of 25 years. They talk about the humbleness of Canadians and the pride they have in their country. So special to be able to really get to know people who live in the area you visit in. We vow to get up early – 4am – to get to busy Banff National Park ahead of the crowds.
