Tuesday, September 22, 2009 Big Sur town and coast fog

Wake on the Big Sur coast to fog and then past the coastal favorite historic and unique hotel, Deetchen’s to Big Sur Town, ½ mile inland and sunny, and prepare for client call, that means finding internet and a private place to talk usually in our treasured van.

We head out to famous Nepenthe Restaurant for the view which is clearing!

We meet others whom the coast in inspiring like us as we get serenaded.

Then it is beautiful views

and another fantastic sunset and moon rise while the seals bark on beaches far below!

Monday, September 21, 2009 Down the coast to San Luis Obispo

Foggy morning and then some clearing as we see Julia Burns Pfeiffer State Park! We have seen pictures of this and the first time in real for this amazing place with a waterfall off the cliff onto the beach below.

We continue with the beautiful coastal scenery before heading back into the fog,

We stop for the elephant seals on the beach and

then up to Hearst Castle visitor’s center.

And more seals at Morro Bay. This is seal piles at their best. Do you see the little lighter one buried beneath the rest?Sleep at South Big Sur

Sunday, September 20, 2009 Carmel Mission and Head to Big Sur and fog

We wake up at our friend, Michele’s beautiful home and her welcoming spirit. Everywhere there is abundant wonderful Spanish moss that fills and hangs in all the trees naturally, a testament to the moisture here all the time.

We visit the Carmel Mission we like the old quality of it and found the history interesting. It has an unusual shaped roof.

The founder of the Mexican and Californian Missions, Father Junipero Sera is buried here.

We went on to Big Sur and unfortunately again, most of the coast was foggy. A mile inland – sun! Frustrating. And it does produce some interesting photographs!

Saturday, September 19, 2009 Monterey Jazz Festival Foggy Weather in Monterey and Carmel

We listen outside the festival and hear a nice jazz band and Wynton Marsalis, their artist in residence this year, playing with a jazz orchestra! We sleep at our sweet coaching friend, Michele’s at her fantastic home set in old oak trees with abundant hanging Spanish moss in them. We spend the evening sharing dreams and exploring coaching profession ideas.

Friday, September 18, 2009 Back to the coast and Beautiful Day at Monterey!

We do the tourist tour around the gardens and old houses of the old town of Monterey. And we visit the house where the first California Constitution was signed.

We go down to the warf and sample all the clam chowders from all the restaurants on the Fisherman’s Warf! They were all so tasty – hard to choose the best one. So we had to keep trying! On the shoreline we see pelicans and seals, lying in the most amazing postures.

We also encounter a quite cheeky squirrel who bites Gerrit’s leg!

Then we took a long bike ride along the shore. Past lover point and on the Asilomar. What an amazing shoreline it is! We saw nothing when we were here before because of the fog. Now it is perfect weather day and we see it all.

And of course, there is the typical most amazing sunset complete with colored houses reflecting in the sea and ship and birds flying! We sleep by the coast by Asilomar Retreat Center
